THE CONCEPT
“Organic form and raw beauty. We love the idea of sculptural function, so the columns are exposed concrete, the timber is raw finished with metal trim,” explains Dara Huang, founder of Design Haus Liberty. With the river as its starting point, the collection also suggests the changing tones of the shoreline.
THE DETAILS
Minimalist in their approach, Design Haus Liberty avoided the use of skirting and ornament to provide clean lined apartments that stand out. As Dara Huang explains: “We always try to use the purity of natural finishes, keeping the design very simple and not concealing or covering up.” This approach is augmented by the use of natural materials such as engineered timber flooring and porcelain tiles.
THE CRAFT
To relate back to nature, the team picked materials that provided a contrast between polished and coarse textures, from the
softness of wool boucle next to rough-cut timber and metal or the disparity between the veins of marble and the oxidation of steel.
THE DESIGNER
Founded by Dara Huang, Design Haus Liberty juxtapose modern with the traditional to deliver distinctive form and space. Projects have ranged from Villa Mosca Bianca on the shore of Lake Maggiore in Italy to a cluster of apartments in Shoreditch.
